Germans in the Hands of Lano

...The concert began with Wagnerʼs Siegfried Idyll in which Lano transmitted the intimacy of the work, offering a most interesting exposition of sonic planes as well as an exquisite transparency and tone quality of the strings.
...In the Duet-Concertino of Richard Strauss, Martin Castillos and Estéban Falconi demonstrated their mastery of this late work of the composer in which one could appreciate their individual musicality and beautiful phrasing - both singly and in ensemble, all the while maintaing an equilibrium of musical discourse.
...In presenting his first rendition of a Beethoven symphony since becoming Music Director, Lano was confronted with the memories of the unforgettable versions of Beethoven symphonies of Erich Kleiber with our National Symphony in 1939 and 1943, as well as those later realized by Piero Gamba. The interpretation of Lano was as a finely polished emerald: each motive and sub-motive presented with pristine clarity, the cleanliness of accentuation constantly imbuing and underscoring the sense of a pastorale idyll from beginning to end. It is worth mentioning that the performance felt comparable to that expansion of sentiments one feels when confronted with the pure beauty of nature. Lano managed to combine all amalgamations of orchestra timbres as to fill the hall with a music of extreme richness. He was most definitely of the same level as his distinguished predecessors.
