Brahms, A German Requiem
Orquésta Estable del Teatro Argentina, 2000
The Genius of Brahms
Daniel Varacalli Costas, La Prensa
(...) Stefan Lano has demonstrated on numerous occasions his talent for conducting: at the Colon, with the Philharmonic, his highly acclaimed versions of LULU and WOZZECK and, most recently, DIE TOTE STADT and SALOME. He is known as a conductor of conviction and one who is summarily personal in his decisions. The recent concert offering the German Requiem of Brahms gave us another example of this when, only a few minutes into the first movement, he stopped the concert and began anew after the interruption of a cellular phone in the auditorium.
(...) Without doubt, to the very last row of the Faculty of Law Auditorium, it was clear how dramatic a change has been effected at the Teatro Argentino this year. The Resident Chorus showed itself vocally and idiomatically in command of this repertoire. Lano offered a version of Brahms with a rich variety of orchestral mood and color profound in the first movement, luminescent in the Finale with much care for details of phrase and ensemble.
