Bela Bartok, Bluebeard's Castle, (Teatro Colón 1995)

Abel Lopez Iturbe, Ambito Financiero

(...) During the entire performance, the work of the musicians and the conductor, Stefan Lano, was outstanding. He did not overlook even the slightest of details. The collaboration between stage and orchestra was perfect This performance brought us nearer to this sole opera of the important Hungarian composer.

Past performances of this beautiful work have brought such conductors as Böhm, Kertesz and Smetacek to the Teatro Colon. This year, the theater again produced a winner in entrusting the task to Stefan Lano. The American Maestro, until now, the hero of the recent Alban Berg productions at the Colon, offered an ideal Bartok. All of the nuances of secret and suggestion called for in this wonderful score can be heard in the unusually beautiful interpretation of Lano and the Colon orchestra: an accomplishment worthy of being counted as among the best the Teatro Colon has offered.
